Time is flying by! Can you believe we’re already at the end of October!? Yikes, I can’t believe Halloween is next week!!
During this last month, in my group Business. Life Village , we’ve been talking about building your own Personal Passion Project and discovering what your passion and purpose truly is! That way we can create the life that we want and build our business around it versus someone else’s passion!
My main question for you is: WHAT LIGHTS YOU UP?
It’s really important to dig deep and get an understanding of yourself, understand what drives you, understand what makes you LIGHT UP!
Sometimes you need to reaffirm what that is; get in there and really reframe and re-ignite where you’re at in your life.
You know what I am talking about. You see the motivational quotes all the time – on Facebook, many office walls and white boards as well but, while doing what you love sounds wonderful and so ROMANTIC, getting there can be pretty darn daunting.
It’s daunting to think “Alright, can I really build a business or live my life the way I want around the things I love to do?”
You could have grown up in a working class home where you watched your parents dutifully put in at their jobs, Monday through Friday, 7-4, 9-5 or whatever shift was required. They did it all just so they can enjoy their weekends off and 2 weeks at the campground each summer. Does that sound ring a bell?
I know that picture, both of my parents worked. My dad for most of my growing up years and then my mom, who started work later in life. Their whole aim was you worked until you retired. Then you got the ‘golden watch’ but … what actually happened next? You just sat at home.
It sure didn’t sound fun to me but that was the way it was and it really was’t ‘acceptable’ to step outside of that boundary.
If you even spoke about it, you were questioned and received responses of complete doubt and lack of confidence in your decisions and dreams.
It wasn’t the norm to build something for yourself. It was better to be safe and secure – to be in a ‘clock in and clock out’ environment. Where you go to work, be bored, you go home and you sit in front of the T.V. maybe enjoy a glass of wine and go to bed and then repeat, repeat, repeat.
What did I end up doing? The greatest motivator for me was the question: Who just wants to sit?
So when my retirement came around earlier than I expected (Corporations love to ‘pull the rug’ out from under you, laid off at 63!) I started my first online business.
Maybe you tried to create your own path. But instead (based on popular demand) you went to off to college and studied biology, business administration or sales and marketing. Now you feel trapped in a job you don’t love. You worked so hard to get this job and think “Oh, sh** I hate this job! I hate it! I’m bored to death!”
You want to change course, but, what if you make the wrong choice?
I recently read a comment in a post talking about the fear of failure. – “What if it I can’t do it? What if the decision I make is wrong?” There is no ‘wrong’ if you’re going after your passion. There is no such thing as ‘failure.’ – it’s all about the lessons you learn. So really, you can’t fail at anything.
So you want to change course but you’re scared. Plus, deep down, you wonder what else are you even qualified to do?
The dilemma for the people who feel like their working only for the weekends and not pursuing their passions is: How can you even know what you want to be when you grow up?
The whole process of growing up is that you never grow up, not in that sense. It’s not like you turn 21 and you know it all. It’s a lifelong process.
You just keep learning, expanding and stretching yourself; you keep going on and on and on. That’s what’s amazing about growing up – it’s a continual process. You change constantly.
I’ve been through several life changes. Every time I’ve had to change and reframe myself, or transition and I would grow even more. It’s created this huge growth process within me that I’ve learned to embrace. Someone told me building your business is like the cha cha cha – 2 steps forward one step back. And it’s so true!
The truth is, there are millions of people out there who trudge off to work every single day, wishing they were anywhere else, hoping that one day they can find what really inspires them! They want to get out there; they want to make something happen for themselves that they LOVE to do!
That’s what passion is! That’s what purpose is! Finding something and doing it because you love it! If this is you hoping one day to find what really inspires you and you’re feeling ‘kinda’ stuck, rest assured that you’re not alone.
Jobs have a tendency to kill you slowly, raising your blood pressure, causing anxiety and depression. Is your job worth affecting your health? There’s way more to life than waking up and then pulling the covers back over your head and wishing the day away. There is still time to discover your passion and start doing the work that you love.
Let’s discover your passion and your purpose to create the life that you want and build your business around it!
I want to invite you to join us in this Personal Passion Project over in my awesome group Business.Life Village where you will find a community of amazing individuals just like you who are trying to find and grow their passion that they can build their life and business around. Hope to see you there!
